Imphal, August 10 (SNS): The house-to-house enumeration for the census is scheduled to begin from August 17. In view of this, the Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation (JFD) has launched a protest movement demanding that the census be conducted properly.

Following the two-day consultative meeting convened by the government, representatives of the JFD, along with 14 civil society organisations (CSOs), met with Manipur Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam, the State Home Secretary, members of the Population Commission and officials of the concerned departments.

During the meeting, the delegation raised several issues and submitted a number of demands concerning the conduct of the census and the proposed delimitation exercise.

The representatives stressed the need to conduct the census before taking up delimitation-related matters and urged the government to ensure that the population figures are properly verified and accurately recorded.

The delegation also discussed various concerns surrounding the delimitation process and urged the government to take appropriate steps to ensure a just and fair delimitation exercise.

The JFD and the participating CSOs maintained that delimitation should not be carried out without first establishing accurate and reliable population data through a proper census.
